Marder: Detailed, authoritative, restrained judgements, Naval Operations, which was part of the 'Official History of the War' was prepared in the Historical Section of the C.I.D. under the direction of Corbett, then Newbolt after Corbett's death. It was intended to be an interim semi-popular treatment of the subject for the public, as opposed to the Staff History which was being written by the Historical Section of the Naval Staff. AJS: Whilst volumes 1-3 appear with some regularity complete sets are uncommon, no doubt volumes 4-5 were printed in smaller prints runs. This is volume 2 only with detailed coverage of the Dardanelles campaign.
