AJS: A history of English naval enterprise in the first half of the seventeenth century and some account of foreign policy with which it was connected. One of the main points of the author's thesis is to shew that, as a result of maladministration and short-sighted policy at home, the Navy was frequently reduced to impotence and rarely able to exert much influence on the situation.
