1 Macgregor (Gen Sir D.) A Narrative of the Loss of the Kent East Indiaman, by fire, in the Bay of Biscay on 1st March 1825.
1825 rp 1971,
78pp, frontis, blue cloth. AJS: The Kent, a fine new ship of 1,350 tons under the command of Captain Henry Cobb, left the Downs on the 19th February, 1825, bound for Bengal and the Far East. On board were 473 officers and men of the 31st infantry regiment with their families, and twenty private passengers. The crew numbered 148. This narrative gives a terrifying account of the vessel catching fire in the Bay of Biscay and subsequently foundering. A second anonymous edition was published in 1842. It was followed by a third in 1859, which identifies the author who signed the letter 'Servatus' as Lieutenant-General Sir Duncan Macgregor, KCB.
