1 Young (C.F.T.) The Fouling and Corrosion of Iron Ships: Their Causes and Means of Prevention, with the Mode of Application to the Existing Iron-Clads.
1867,
viii + 212pp, folding engraved frontis, folding engraved plate, text illus, 4pp publishers catalogue at end, original decorated blue cloth. AJS: This copy sent for review by the publisher (no recipient mentioned). Included is a handwritten review as follow: "We have received a copy of the above work got out in a very neat manner, its object is good the prevention of fouling being a great desideratum with iron ship builders and many have been the plans devised for its prevention but as yet most of them have fallen far short of the expectations raised. The plan which Mr Young proposes is altogether novel and seems to us to apply more especially to our Armour Clad Navy and certainly will effectively prevent the alarming deterioration of our magnificent fleet. As we have not seen it practically carried out, we cannot speak of its success but we think that Mr Young deserves great praise for aiding in so important a manner the carrying out of this much required object. Altogether it is a step in the right direction and we think the book well worthy of attention and careful perusal of all connected with Iron Ship building."
